From Deventer, you cycle along the IJssel. You cycle via the Nieuw Rande and de Haere estates to the village of Olst, where you cross the river on the IJssel ferry. You follow the river further north, past the dyke village of Veessen with its windmill and river harbour. Here you can take the ferry to Fortmond, a beautiful nature reserve criss-crossed by ancient waterways. The view from the watchtower is breathtaking. From the pretty old village of Wijhe, you follow the riverbank again. A cycle ferry takes you to the picturesque town of Hattem (Anton Pieck Museum). Largely on traffic-free dyke paths, past natural floodplains and the former Windesheim monastery, you reach the town of Zwolle, which is surrounded by a moat. With the Museum de Fundatie, an art route, the Broerenkerk alias "Book Church" and excellent restaurants, this atmospheric Hansa city has made a name for itself in the cultural and culinary field.
