Cycling holiday Bourbon - l'Archambault

Staying in a former castle in the centre of a spa town. That sounds très bien. Especially when the cuisine is also excellent. But the surroundings of Bourbon are not to be sneezed at either. Forest areas, valleys, plateaus and atmospheric villages alternate. So that means tasting... and enjoying. » read more about Cycling holiday Bourbon - l'Archambault

A recipe to savour

The recipe for this culinary base holiday is surprisingly simple. Begin with a charming hotel in a former château as your base. Add beautiful routes through tranquil forests and picturesque valleys. Stir in the many quaint villages. Generously sprinkle six cycling routes with enchanting castles, and finish your creation with the authentic village of Meillers. Et voilà: a cycling holiday to make your mouth water. Oh la la…!

A Feast for the Eyes

This holiday might be centered around culinary pleasures, but it’s also a treat for the eyes. As you cycle through Souvigny, Cérilly, Buxières-les-Mines, Moulins, St. Leopardin d'Augy, Saint Aubin, and Cosne, you’ll pass sights such as the medieval Château des Ducs de Bourbon, the quaint hamlet of Autry Issard decorated with colorful bicycles and flower boxes, the small village of Vieure with its picturesque church square, and the must-see Château de la Salle. All sights that are sure to make your mouth water.

Charming Moulins

Until 1327, it was a village like many others, but that year, it was declared the residence of the Dukes of Bourbon. And, well, that drew in visitors—even back then. It developed into one of the most beautiful towns in Auvergne, and it still is today. Stroll through the narrow cobbled streets, marvel at the old half-timbered houses, and step into the beautiful cathedral to see the famous triptych by the Master of Moulins. The old mills also add to the town's delightful charm.

Recharge in Historic Bourbon-l'Archambault

For centuries, the spa town of Bourbon-l'Archambault has been renowned for the therapeutic properties of its waters, attracting kings, emperors, and admirals alike. “Ah oui, c’est très bien ici,” they would say, as they all plunged into the healing waters. The beautiful thermal baths are now a historic monument, but still very much in use. They specialize in treatments for rheumatic and gynecological conditions, but also offer relaxation and vitality sessions. So, after an intense day of cycling, you’ll know just where to go. And by the way, a visit to the Château of the Dukes of Bourbon is also highly recommended.
