Peaceful Münsterland
Especially on day 4 of this 7-day journey, cycling is relaxed and incredibly peaceful. No wonder, as the Hanseatic city of Münster comes into view. It was here, in 1648, that the Treaty of Münster was signed, bringing an end to the eighty years of war between Spain and the Dutch Republic. The Friedenssaal, where this took place, is now a European Heritage site that you can visit. The city itself is steeped in history, but the many students give Münster a lively vibe.
Beautiful Routes Through Münsterland
The journey begins in Bad Bentheim, just across the Dutch border. From there, it passes through Gronau, home to the Rock ’n Pop Museum, ventuuring briefly into the Netherlands, and then back into Germany to Alstätte, the cathedral city of Billerbeck, and the city of peace, Münster. Along the way, you’ll pass grand castles, beautiful manor houses, charming villages, and stunning nature in expansive parklands. That’s Münsterland in a nutshell. Fortunately, the adventure doesn’t end in Münster, as the route continues through Steinfurt-Borghorst and back to Bad Bentheim.
