Patchwork of green

Here you will find the most beautiful gardens, the greenest grass, the narrowest roads, the oldest pubs, and centuries-old, crooked half-timbered houses. The counties of Essex and Suffolk also cherish their natural and cultural heritage. With a rolling landscape, that reveals itself as a patchwork quilt, in every imaginable shade of green. And even before you set foot ashore, you'll experience plenty of romance at sea: the rough water, the screeching seagulls and of course the sight of the White Cliffs of Dover.

The inland and the coast

Once ashore, a rolling hedgerow landscape soon reveals itself, with many winding roads that lead you to beautiful places such as Lavenham, Bury St. Edmunds, Rickinghall, Eye and Woodbridge, to name just a few. Not only will you be cycling through this beautiful landscape, you'll also cycle along the coast with its characteristic harbor and seaside resorts. And although the seagulls are crying for you to stay, the patchwork landscape and its hills are calling your name again, flaunting more shades of green and yellow than they can create at Caran d'Ache.

Delightfully higgledy-piggledy

An absolute must-see village is Lavenham, which you'll be visiting on the first day. The town in the county of Suffolk is especially popular thanks to the many intact medieval buildings. The crooked and colourful wooden buildings truly are a sight for sore eyes. You will also find a beautiful medieval church there. Actually, the area is known for these types of churches. There's no place else that has such a high density of medieval churches as Lavenham.

Take a look around

In addition to centuries-old churches and 'crooked houses', you will also come across various beautiful country houses, some even with regal allure. Such as Ickworth House with its rounded appearance, near Bury St. Edmunds. The neoclassical house was the residence of the Marquess of Bristol before it was sold in 1998 to the National Trust, which now manages it. In the town of Bury St. Edmunds you will find another stop: the old St. Edmundsbury Cathedral.
