At the start of the day, you cycle through the walled medieval town of Venzone. The "Tiere Motus" museum shows how the town was rebuilt after the 1976 earthquake.
A few kilometres further on, the mountains turn into fertile, gently undulating farmland. Along quiet roads, past numerous small villages, you reach the provincial capital of Udine. Udine was a Venetian city for centuries, but other cultures have also left their mark here. The castle (museum) stands centrally on a hill in the historic centre. The church next to it, Santa Maria di Castello, has beautiful frescoes. The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art is a great museum.
